Towards a Carbon Nanotube Synthase

The long-term goal of this project is to design or evolve an enzyme to synthesize a carbon nanotube. We are currently setting up a directed evolution protocol and system in our lab to generate a technique to achieve our long-term goal of making a nanotube synthase. These studies require molecular biology and cloning techniques, giving students training in genetic engineering, enzyme engineering, and nanotechnology.
